It Is Well with My Soul

Probably very few, like Spafford, are able to maintain their faith in the face of such devastating bereavement without spiritually faltering. The natural tendency of one confronted with such senseless tragedy would surely be to question, to doubt, to blame, to accuse God. Yet this hymn reveals a person who had been graced by God to mourn without bitterness, to sorrow without anger, to trust without resentment, to rest in the peace of Christ which surpasses every man's understanding (Phil. 4:6). The remarkable faith exhibited by the author of this hymn is the same precious faith allotted to all the believers (2 Peter 1:1) which enables them to believe steadfastly as the author did, that all things work together for good to those who love God and to those who are called according to His purpose (Rom. 8:28).

My life is for God's purpose, whatever happens to me, I must not be sad but trust and still have the peace He offers us. My friends, I love you, my family I love you. I want to believe, I want to love others, my lot has made me a stronger daughter.

He Knows My Name

He knows my name, He made me, He planned my whole life. I did not have a very kind childhood, which someday I will share. Right now in my life, I'm having trouble with some family issues, which are very sad and unkind too. But I have hope.

While doing the dishes this morning, I had a wonderful thought, I'm sure from my Creator, who loves me. If God helped me through my childhood troubles, and answered some of my childhood prayers, then He can do it for me again as an adult. I must remember to have faith and to remember He knows my name. I must be patient, kind, gentle and relaxed among others and to keep helping my church with dinners, with my scrapbooking etc.

I must remember He knows my name!

A Season in LIfe

Dear Friends,
I'm going through some tough times right now, and during these times, I'm slowing down with my blog. My heart does not know what to write about, even my gardening time has been limited. I do have my hand on my Pillar, my Lord and Savior while I'm feeling so sad and old. It's a weird feeling when your thinking you are Job, being attacked by Satan. This situation is stopping me from doing God's work or stopping me to love and smile.

Staying home and baking cookies has helped me, but only Christ Alone will bail me out of this Season in my Life.

I'm a small little seed, trying to get out of this pit, I want to bloom for my KING!

Sorry I've been away

I apologise for being away for so long. I've stopped writing, first of all my eldest son had been very sick in the hospital, he is now doing well and feeling better. Thank You Lord. Secondly, I have been focused on my daughter Laura, getting her ready for college. She is now tucked away in her cute dorm room.

I must get back on track with my plants and with my house work. I am praying about trying to help my husband with college finances and medical bills we recently required. I'm going to start working at home with Malaleuca Products. I'm excited about it, the more I learn I will share with others.

It was very hard for me to let Laura Beth go. I have home schooled her for 13 years. My wish would be for her to stay at home and learn to cook, clean and study God's word, while learning a skill from home. It was very hard for me to let her go.

My third son James, will be a junior this school year, while playing football for Calvary Chapel High School. My prayer is for me to focus on his home school and to prepare him for College.

Thank you Lord for being there with me, please help me to let go of any hurt feelings I felt from Laura Beth and help my sadness to go away because she did not text me back when I said Good Night.

Apple Butter






My apple tree bears fruit in July, I call it my Fuji apple tree, but I'm not really sure what type of apple. I just love my tree especially when the blossoms appear and the scent of apple blossoms fill my back garden with their fragrance.

I planted this tree in honor and memory of my Grandfather, Gene Coke, in 1989. It took about 15 years for my apples to taste good and sweet enough to can apple sauce or apple butter. This year I made apple butter.

First, I cleaned the organic apples, cut them and boiled them until soft. Then I put them through a hand turned sieve into my crock to simmer over night, with the spices added and sugar, the following morning I canned my apple butter, mmmm good.

Glechoma hederacea





This is my "Creeping Charlie" hanging in my back garden in the shade. What I knew about the plant was that it preferred the shade and moist soil, and it likes to be trimmed. This is the first time I have ever had one that grew this big and produce these orchid like flowers. Yesterday I was cutting some of my roses to make a center piece for Sunday, and I went to my "Creeping Charlie" to cut some vines for my arrangement, and I saw these tiny minute sweet flowers. I was so excited I took a picture and called my mother. They are so little and darling, I knew this would be my next species right from my back garden.

What I learned about this Plantae Species is my "Creeping Charlie" is called Glechoma hederacea from the Family: Lamiaceae - "Mint Family" Common Name: ground ivy, a difficult to control weed that most often frustrates professional lawn care operators.

Ground ivy is characterized by its coin shaped leaves with scalloped edges and square petioles (the blade that attaches the stem to the stalk) and stems. All plant parts have a strong mint oder when crushed or cut. Ground ivy's orchid like purple flowers appear for a short time in mid May. The flowers can easily be overlooked as they are often exhibited below the turf canopy. Which is probably why I never saw them before this.

It spreads by stolons or by seed. Part of the reason for its wide spread is this rhizomatous method of reproduction. It will form dense mats which can take over areas of lawns, and thus can be considered an invasive or aggressive weed.

Cultivation and Uses:
Glechoma is sometimes grown as a potted plant, and occasionally as a ground cover. A variegated variety is sometimes commercially available.

While often thought of as a weed because of its propensity for spreading, Glechoma has culinary and medicinal uses which were the cause of its being imported to America by early European settlers. The fresh herb can be rinsed and steeped in hot water to create an herbal tea which is rich in vitamin C. The essential oil of the plant has many potent medicinal properties; the plant has been used for centuries as a general tonic for colds and coughs and to relieve congestion of the mucous membranes. The plant has been demonstrated to have anti-inflammatory properties. It has also been claimed to increase excretion of lead in the urine.[citation needed]

Its medicinal properties have been described for millennia, Galen recommending the plant to treat inflammation of the eyes, for instance. John Gerard, an English herbalist, recommended the plant to treat tinnitus, as well as a "diuretic, astringent, tonic and gentle stimulant. Useful in kidney diseases and for indigestion." It is also useful as a "lung herb".[1]

Glechoma was also widely used by the Saxons in brewing beer as flavoring, clarification, and preservative, before the introduction of hops for these purposes; thus the brewing-related names, Alehoof, Tunhoof, and Gill-over-the-ground.

Lacecap Hydrangea


I thought this hydrangea in my front garden was having trouble blooming, I kept feeding it and probably over watering this perennial plant, but today I know different after learning about the Hydrangea macrophylla, I know now, this sweet plant is called "Lacecap". I read on the web, the Lacecap Hydrangea petals of the flower symbolises the mask of love. Lacecaps with their flat, round flower heads are a great addition to a garden.

If you cut flowers like I do, and put them indoors, submerged them completely in cool water for about an hour and then place in water filled vase. If you do not do this, the flowers quickly wilt. But by conditioning them, they will last for days. If they start to wilt in the vase, submerge them again, and they will revive. I love having arrangements of them in my dining room, especially on Sundays.
Many believe the name Hydrangea, with it origin in the word hydra, means that the plant requires massive amounts of water. Actually, the name was given because the seed capsules look like water pitchers.

Hydrangea Macrophylla


"Endless Summer"
This Mophead hydrangea is in my back garden, the blooms are so big and beautiful this year, that I am going to dry the flowers for the very first time. What I knew about hydrangeas is, they love the morning sun, and lots and lots of water! I also knew they would change colors depending on the soil balance. This is my third year with this shrub you see in the picture, the previous years I had it in the shade, this year I moved it so my shrub would feel the morning sun with shade in the afternoon, and I watered it twice a day, which I did not do last year or the year before. This hardy plant proved to be in it's perfect spot for showing off it's beauty, don't you think?

What I did not know was the name and type, "Endless Summer" mophead hydrangea macrophylla, a deciduous shrub. Most mopheads set their blooms in August, September, and October, just like azaleas. A mophead hydrangea can bloom on old and new wood, which I did not know either, very interesting. For hydrangeas a good fertilizer would be the balance of NPK (10-40-10) nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium. Using a soil acidifier will lower your soils PH for beautiful blue blooms. The flowers can be white, or range from blue to purple to pink depending on the soils PH. In more acidic soils the flowers will be blue where alkaline soils yield pinkish bloom, white flowered varieties do not change color regardless of soil PH. I am now interested in trying to grow a white hydrangea called the "Blushing Bride".

100 Species Challenge


I found a fun idea I'm going to try: The 100 Species Challenge, this sounds wonderful, I wonder how many different species I have in my own back garden?
Here are the rules:

1. Participants should include a copy of these rules and a link to this entry in their initial blog post about the challenge.

2. Participants should keep a list of all plant species they can name, either by common or scientific name, that are living within walking distance of the participant’s home. The list should be numbered, and should appear in every blog entry about the challenge, or in a sidebar.

3. Participants are encouraged to give detailed information about the plants they can name in the first post in which that plant appears. My format will be as follows: the numbered list, with plants making their first appearance on the list in bold; each plant making its first appearance will then have a photograph taken by me, where possible, a list of information I already knew about the plant, and a list of information I learned subsequent to starting this challenge, and a list of information I’d like to know.

4. Participants are encouraged to make it possible for visitors to view their blog to find easily all 100-Species-Challenge blog posts. This can be done either by tagging these posts, by ending every post on the challenge with a link to your previous post on the challenge, or by some method which surpasses my technological ability and creativity.

5. Participants may post pictures of plants they are unable to identify, or are unable to identify with precision. They should not include these plants in the numbered list until they are able to identify it with relative precision. Each participant shall determine the level of precision that is acceptable to her; however, being able to distinguish between plants that have different common names should be a bare minimum.

6. Voice of the Martyrs


In March 2008, Pastor KhamLa Namheng and seven Khmu pastors from Udom Sai province in Laos were arrested when entering Thailand to attend meetings. VOM contacts report, “They went the wrong way trying to avoid a police check point. When the police later searched their bags they found two Bibles and some letters. The police claimed the letters were written against the village authority reporting persecution.”
Pastors’ Kham Chan Konekham, Kham La Namheng, Siphone Namheng, Khamnath Namheng, Serth Naphok, Khou Phouphone, Thong Soun Namtam, and Houng Mokbooc were arrested on March 18 when they entered Thailand and were followed by the Laos police. When they were searched two of them had Bibles, and everything they were carrying was confiscated. This arrest was the latest after 15 Hmong families were arrested in Bokeo Province on February 22.



I'm writing KhamLa Namheng today, with words of encouragement, to let him know I'm praying for him and the others with him. My letter will be sent to Lao People's Democratic Republic.

Graduation Quilt


This quilt was made for our daughter Laura Beth, by her Grandmother, Two Great Aunts and by me, her Mother. My Mother embroidered the sunflowers with little bees and sewed the blocks together, My Aunt Roberta made the large sunflowers with punch art, My Aunt Karen quilted it and did the binding all by hand. I chose the material and printed the pictures of Laura Beth.

This tradition started in 2004 for our eldest son Daniel when he graduated from Saddleback Christian Academy ISP, the theme on his quilt was music. I'll post a picture of his soon.

This is an heirloom that will be treasured and admired for years to come. Specially made for Laura Beth, by her Grandmother, Mother, and Aunt Roberta and Aunt Karen.

Rugby in Colorado

James went to Denver Colorado to play for Orange County Rugby Team the "Griffins".
His team did very well winning first place with a nice big trophy. We picked James up from LAX last night, he was tired and happy wearing his U18's Griffins shirt.

Graduation Celebration


In honor of Laura Beth French, Tuesday the tenth of June, two thousand and eight, half past five o'clock in the afternoon. Today! I feel happy for my daughter while feeling strange this is happening. She means so much to me, from the moment she was born. She's gentle, she's calm, she's smart and now getting ready to go Azusa Pacific University.

After the graduation we are going out to dinner at "Maggianos Restaurant" should be very fun with family and friends.

I feel a little over whelmed today, I'm having an open house this Saturday, making plans cleaning the house and back garden preparing for a nice get together with friends from church, close relatives and neighbors and friends. Wow! what a big deal I'm having. I must keep calm and pray for my nerves to relax and to enjoy preparing for a party.

Dear Lord, thank you for this day, and thank you for Laura Beth and my family. You are so good to me. May this day of graduation be a blessing, and may Saturday be honorable to You my Heavenly Father. Lord, please keep me calm while preparing and getting ready for the graduation and for the party. Help me to be wise with what is a priority to work on first, second, third and last. Be with our finances that I spend wisely for our family. I lift all my anxiety to You and I give You myself, knowing You are walking right beside me. In Jesus Name, AMEN

Rugby Banquet


Rugby descends from an 18th century Cornish or Welsh sport known as "hurling" in which a ball was thrown up and the players acting either as individuals or as teams attempted to carry it to a goal.[1] The goal could be set as far as several miles away thereby creating the opportunity for large-scale brawls in intervening villages. In Welsh the sport is called cnapan or "criapan". The old Irish predecessor of the sport may be caid, not to be confused with Gaelic "hurling" or "hockey" which has the difference that the ball was hit with a stick rather than carried. Rugby Football is commonly known as "rugby" and as "rugger".


Today we are going to a rugby banquet for the Gators of San Clemente. My son James has played a great season, and is very anxious for this party. I am bringing some cookies for dessert and other families bring pot luck style. I will write more about the awards. Have a wonderful Saturday, Keep your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of this world will go strangley dim, in the light of His wonderful face. Bloom for the King!

The Big Blue Sky Awaits


I'm going to ride, relax and read, while enjoying God's creation with respect and appreciation for everything He has given us to look upon. This awaits me! I'm ready for a vacation! I need a vacation! I want to forget about what's not important nor my responsibility, but to remember God. I want to let everything else go, and talk to Him while I'm here and to pray that I may live for Him. I love vacations when you can stop and smell the roses. I will daily walk with Him and converse with Him every second, while I ride my bike or walk with my husband. I need to abandon my sad feelings I have been having lately, to give them to God, so I may recieve His guidance on how to handle the situation I'm in. Surely I can trust Him! This awaits me!

Today I received an electronic mail that was hurtful and written wrong accusations, my heart pounded harder and harder as I read on. I asked my husband to respond to the e-mail, he did so with great courage and knowledge what to say to this anonymous person. He asked me to calm down, "God is our helper; do not fear, what can man do to you? After our ordeal, I came across this above devotional from todays, "Streams in the Desert"

I received a blow today, may I remember His mercies are new every morning, may this blow bless my inner soul, to turn and keep my eyes on Jesus, the real truth, is what I need while I go about my walk today with Him on my heart and on my outer part of my soul.

Curtains or Camera

For the past two days I have cleaned and ironed my curtains for my living room, bathrooms, and kitchen. They look nice and fresh, for my home. I wish I had a camera to show you. Speaking of a camera....

I have been wanting a camera for some time now, I think wanting must go along with praying for one too. Right now I am going to pray for one.

Dear Lord, there are many things I want for my home, a new front door, new floors, painting indoors, etc., but a camera will bring all the above to life with a different meaning. I can clean, wash and prepare my home for my family and take pictures of my loved ones, and what would I really see? The dirty walls or Laura's cute face?

Lord, you are so wonderful to me to let me be a housewife to stay at home, may I live up to this position, because sometimes I seem to fail at being a mother or fail at giving what my husband needs. I need you every hour, every hour I need Thee.

See how a prayer can become? A new front door, a camera, or what really makes a home? Jesus right in the middle that is what! Jesus, please, today be in the middle of our home and in the middle of our hearts as we start our day. May I have a camera when it's Your timing to have a camera.

Scrap Book For Laura

Well, I have completed up to 2002 on my daughter's scrap book, my pictures are all organized... six more years of boxed pictures to go through, with some on CD's or on Laura's computer. I got up very early this morning to finish 2002, my "purple pages" and then tackle the boxes of pictures again.

My husband is amazed, he absolutely loves the book, and can't believe how time can fly by. I've done this same type of scrap book for my eldest son Daniel, birth to 18years, for his high school graduation gift from MOM. I cry, I laugh and I use my artistic flare for each year, taking my time with love while journaling God's words or writing hymnals or advise from MOM. I limit each year of just two pages in my book, while color coordinating with love. Love Love Love Lots of Love

As I was looking at my pictures yesterday, the thought was constantly in my mind, I must get organized with my pictures. I must try and tackle a little each day making it easier not to get so overwhelmed when the time comes for my youngest James' photo album.

The time to finish is near, June 10Th she will be graduating and getting ready for her new adventure. Time for a new season for my Rose, my precious Laura Beth. My mother is finishing up her memory quilt, all hand embroidering from my Aunt Roberta and from my Mother. Beautiful Sunflowers of course.

Next, another party in our back garden will be Laura's Open House on the 14Th of June. I'm in the planning stage of what to serve? Any suggestions?

Bloom For My King!

There are so many things in life that can make us discouraged.

This week was filled with many things that had me on the roller coaster of discouragement and feeling as if I could not step off it.

I think that what ever our circumstances, whoever is around us and where ever the Lord has planted us we must keep our focus.

God is sovereign and all these things are not to get us depressed, or wallowing in self-pity, or complaining or focused on self but instead God uses these times to teach us to look heavenward---to grow closer to Him. To cry out to Him. He is all that we need. Not those things we have convinced ourselves that we need.

We can fill our head with lies and use up all the energies we have being discontented.

I think all I need is Him and to examine myself and reflect where I can stop this roller coaster.

My thoughts, My love, My prayers

I love Jesus and I love God and I know the Holy Spirit is in me. My heart is just so tender lately feeling so much grief about death, life and my future. I know God is there listening to me, I can see action of consistent prayer happening but I feel so sorrowful, so full of grief. How can long suffering be good for us? What good can come out of ashes? Out of loss, out of anger and self righteousness? MUCH! if we believe His promises and are patient, obedient to turn all to His hand of wisdom and discipline and love.....all our sufferings, longings, finances, time, husband and especially our children. Who knows best? He does! Who is constant, never failing all sufficient. Only Him!

Oh Lord, I lift up my children I had given birth to YOU. I release them to You to do Your work in their lives. May Your hands of love and discipline fall upon them. Take my grief about death away, may I leave it at the foot of the your cross and stand back, walk away and pray.....pray for swift salvation and for the intense pain I'm feeling away.

"But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, Perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you." Peter 5:16

Scrap Booking

I just finished three pages for our new photo album. I feel so honored to do this for Grace Church. We have a new building now, and we emerged with another church family.
Thinking this was a great time to start a photo album, I asked both Pastors if this would be okay. They referred me to one of our elders and he gave the OK to lead this project.
Pastor James, just finished up his teachings on the book of John, which gave me the idea to use all my notes from his sermons on John for my first few pages. The very week we knew we were to move into our new building, Pastor Michael, announced to come and serve and to beautify our new building for Sunday. I have many pictures of all of us working in the kitchen, cleaning cupboards and the men with all their hammers building and tearing down.

I used quotes from my notes, Pastor James said: "We need to depend on Him for this work to which Christ has called us all." I put that under his picture. I used many different quotes from the book of John and from my notes. THE LORD OF GLORY IS DOING THE SERVING. Reveal Jesus under a happy man working hard. I love this one, I put by my picture; "God is the One who brought us together!"

Scrapbooking

I'm putting together a scrap book for my daughter Laura Beth for her high school graduation. I did the same thing for my eldest son, Daniel. In honor of the 18 years God has given to us.
She was born February 15, 1990, and I'm only on the year 1997! My time doing this has been fun and I'm trying to be creative with each two page. Each year I have a two page layout, so I can have all 18 years in one photo album. I just finished Keepers at home, wonderful happy times.
I will keep you posted on my progress. Also, my mother and I are working on a quilt for Laura Beth's surprise. We are embroidering sunflowers and we will put on one square her Graduation Date. 2008!

God's Promises

My pastor sent us an article by Sinclair Ferguson, to read for reflection this week, "Boldly and Expectantly Leaning on the Promises". Here he says there are two places in the New Testament where right living is seen as the direct consequence of trusting God's promises. Writes Paul to the Corinthians: "Since we have these promises...let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit..." (2 Cor. 7:10). The "promises" to which he refers are God's covenant with his people that he will 1) be with them, 2) receive those who "touch no unclean thing," and 3) be a Father to them (2 Cor. 6:16-18). Paul's reasoning is If this is what God promises to be to His holy people, let us make every effort to be such holy people. If these are the riches that await me, let me walk on that path of holiness that leads to them. Here holiness is a direct result of living in the light of the divine promises.

What a great article to start the New Year off with; "May God's promises similarly renew your life. I must resolve to remember, read and rely on God's promises to govern my life-style. He has promised to never leave me, then I must never leave Him either.

I haven't had the easiest year during 2007, and at times I did not handle my situations with a calm composer. Remembering His promises along with knowing the whole contents of how to govern my life-style and knowing His promises will ease my sufferings. I want to live with poise in times of a crisis and pressure like Ferguson said.

These are from my notes on my Pastor's sermon two Sundays ago:
"When you go through trials, keep your mind on Jesus, keep your hope upon the thought Jesus is coming. Anguish will come to an end, and He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. There is HOPE and that one is Jesus He will be your light."

During this Christmas season, I purchased three little ceramic plaques, one says Hope, another Love and another Peace. I put them up above my fire place, I plan to keep them there this whole year of 2008, they will be my reminder to have Hope in His promises and, to Love Jesus while keeping an open communication with Him, which in return will give me Peace of understanding His promises.

Peter writes in a similar vein: "God has given us His very great and precious promise, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires" (2 Peter 1:4)

I must continue to Bloom for my King!

"I am Special"

For a sweet Christmas present my Mother made me a bookmark with a small cross at one end and a little silver bead that says "Believe". Beautiful small gold beads and amber crystals made with love just for me. She put it in a pretty little box with a note attached.

"While making you this bookmark, I asked our Lord above to bless you as each bead I put on. With His everlasting Love, you can use it in your Bible or any book you're reading. Just remember you are special, Those words are worth repeating. "You are special."

Yes, I am special because I have a special Mother to make me something so dear. I love my Mother. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, MOM I LOVE YOU!

Master Bedroom

I joined "The HomeMaker's Mentor", Mrs. Martha Greene's first lesson for January is: "Detail Cleaning the Master Bedroom".

I'm going to clean our Master Bedroom. It seems so silly at the young age of 49 years old, I leave our precious bedroom last for cleaning or last for decorating. We have been living with white walls for seven years now, while our children's rooms have bright beautiful colors. I guess I never have decided on what color to paint our room. Any suggestions?

A principal bedroom in a home, usually the largest, furnished, and used primarily for sleeping quarters by the husband and wife of the home.

I want to make this room nice for my DH and I. He travels with his job and is always going to nice hotels with clean sheets and a tidy room. I want to make our room even more inviting!

Happy New Year!

Last night my darling husband and I went to an Anniversary Renewal of Vows Party. It was wonderful, tears flowing, sincerity spoken between the two couples of love and thankfulness. DH and I holding hands and remembering our vows to each other. After their vows were given and the pastor talked, we had Communion together it was emotional and lovely to bring our Lord in the ceremony. Then we all went to a restaurant "Bob's Kabobs" It was fun and tasty, while a Jazz Musician played Christmas songs and love songs. My dear friend was so happy to share this with others.
Later DH and I came home with our own renewal in our hearts. Love can be blind in another angle; we are in love but blind to show it sometimes. We must continue to love our spouses or our children or our friends, every day with touch, encouraging words and giving of ourselves. Without love we are nothing. It was a wonderful New Years Eve for us. Happy New Year to anyone who reads this. May the Lord bless you as He has done for me.
